The Fundmey Story: From Yemaka to the Future
Fundmey started as Yemaka. The name itself – Yemaka – is a cry for support, a plea familiar to anyone raised in the warmth of a close-knit family or the rhythm of shared living. We answered that call in 2020 by creating a peer-to-peer lending platform rooted in trust. We proved that peer-to-peer lending isn’t just viable, it’s powerful. People supported each other. Loans were disbursed. Dreams got traction.
But the vision was always bigger.
We weren’t just creating a loan app. We were laying the groundwork for a people-powered financial system, one that could grow with its users and reflect the rich, cooperative spirit that has long defined African economics, from osusu circles to cooperative savings groups.
Today, we have evolved into Fundmey – a name that reflects both who we are and where we are going. Still community-based at heart, but now bolder, more structured, and designed to scale. We are the nexus where connections are made through trust, connection, and shared opportunity. Our objective is to promote financial inclusion everyone, powered by people.
